Verrazano is a stallion with a strongly line bred pedigree, and therefore carries several Blue Hen mares which should respond well to reinforcement in matings.
Verrazano carries LA TROIENNE family members More Than Ready, Woodman and Buckpasser. CONGRATS, PRIVATE ACCOUNT, BUPERS, FRANCIS S., HOOK MONEY, CORNISH PRINCE, MR. BUSHER, PARDAL, THE AXE II, ARDAN, BIMELECH, NOBLE BIJOU, BELONG TO ME and RHYTHM are other LA TROIENNE family members to seek in matings.
A Halo line stallion, Verrazano carries a duplication of this influence as well as a duplication to fellow ALMAHMOUD family member Northern Dancer. DANEHILL is another member of this prepotent family, so mares from this prolific sire line will suit. Verrazano’s sire More Than Ready has an excellent record with Danehill mares. Broodmares carrying other ALMAHMOUD descendants such as ORPEN, WAY OF LIGHT, MACHIAVELLIAN, ESPERERO, EXIT TO NOWHERE, CANNONADE, NUCLEAR FREEZE, CATRAIL, EAGLE EYED, EL MOXIE, YOUTHFUL LEGS, L’EMIGRANT and ARCTIC TERN provide significant reinforcement for Verrazano.
Apart from Danehill, Verrazano’s sire More Than Ready has worked well with other DANZIG line broodmare sires, producing Group winners out of mares by/ carrying LANGFUHR, SNAADEE and PINE BLUFF. Mares by AD VALOREM, ANABAA, BELONG TO ME, CHIEF’S CROWN, DESERT SUN, HARD SPUN and PERUGINO (and son TESTA ROSSA) are other examples.
Inbred to Mr. Prospector 4m x 3f, Verrazano may appreciate reinforcement of this, the FRIZETTE family. Individuals such as SEATTLE SLEW, SING SING, DJEDDAH, ROAN ROCKET, TWENTY FOUR KARAT, GREGORIAN, FERDINAND, JET PILOT, TO MARKET, LOMOND, MUKADDAMAH and OMAN in mares’ pedigrees are desirable.
MISS SWAPSCO is the ancestress of Rahy – damsire of Giant’s Causeway in Verrazano. This is also the family of SINGSPIEL, SAINT BALLADO, DEVIL’S BAG, RIVOTIOUS, JAN MURRAY and MANSHOOD.
The presence of Storm Cat and a duplication of Blushing Groom through Verrazano’s dam calls for NIJINSKY II, who is proven to have a genetic affinity with these two sires. He is present in the pedigrees of mares by (or carrying) FASTNET ROCK, ROYAL ACADEMY, WESTERN SYMPHONY, WHISKEY ROAD, YEATS, SERHEED, KALA DANCER, CAERLEON and BLETCHLEY PARK, amongst others.
Mares carrying Star Kingdom have also worked well with Verrazano’s sire More Than Ready. Individuals to look in mares’ pedigrees for include BLETCHINGLY, BUREAUCRACY, COVETOUS, HURRICANE SKY, KENNY’S BEST PAL, MARSCAY, TODMAN, SHIFNAL and WEASEL CLAUSE.
New Zealand stalwart SIR TRISTRAM also appears in several stakes winning More Than Ready progeny. Sources of Sir Tristram include KAAPSTAD, LONHRO, MARAUDING, MILITARY PLUME, OCTAGONAL and ZABEEL.
Mares from the ROBERTO sire line will create a sex balanced duplication of this influence in matings with Verrazano (as he is second damsire of Giant’s Causeway). Daughters and granddaughters of RED RANSOM, AT TALAQ and BROCCO are examples.
Multiple lines to War Admiral and Bold Ruler in Verrazano’s pedigree will appreciate the presence of Prince John and Eight Thirty in mares’ pedigrees. These four individuals have a recognised affinity. Damsires which offer these include SALIERI, CARNEGIE, BRIEF TRUCE, SUCCESS EXPRESS (and son MOSSMAN), MAGIC ALBERT, ROCK OF GIBRALTAR, BROCCO, ROYAL ACADEMY, ZABALETA and IS IT TRUE.
SADLER’S WELLS line mares have enjoyed success with Verrazano’s sire More Than Ready. He can be sourced via mares by GALILEO, HIGH CHAPARRAL, BARATHEA, CARNEGIE, KING OF KINGS, RUNYON, SCENIC (and son BLEVIC) amongst others. Sadler’s Wells’ brother FAIRY KING is accessible via mares by ENCOSTA DE LAGO, FALBRAV and HELISSIO.
