By young sire Starspangledbanner (Aus), The Wow Signal was a Champion Two Year Old in France, naming the coveted Group 1 Prix Morny amongst his victories.
Like Starspangledbanner’s Listed winner Homeofthebrave, The Wow Signal is out of a granddaughter of Sadler’s Wells. In addition, The Wow Signal carries fellow ROUGH SHOD family member Topsider. Broodmare descendants of Sadler’s Wells’ brothers TATE GALLERY and FAIRY KING (sire of ENCOSTA DE LAGO) and their three quarter brother NUREYEV, amongst other damsires from this line, will create further line breeding to this influential family. Apart from mares by ENCOSTA DE LAGO, mares carrying sires such as SOVIET LAD, HELISSIO, FALBRAV, REVOQUE, SPINNING WORLD, GEIGER COUNTER, YEATS, PERUGINO, INFLATE, OPEN DAY and STRAVINSKY should suit. NORTHERN METEOR is another family member whose daughters look good with The Wow Signal.
The Wow Signal’s pedigree carries daughters of several important influences, which will benefit by the presence of sons of these influences in mares. The Wow Factor’s third damsire is Secretariat. Sons of SECRETARIAT in mares’ pedigrees, such as KINGSTON RULE, GENERAL ASSEMBLY and MEDAILLE D’OR will create this pattern in matings with The Wow Signal.
Similarly, the presence of a daughters of both Vain and Lunchtime in Starspangledbanner create an opportunity for sex balanced duplications. Look for mares carrying sons of VAIN and LUNCHTIME such as SNIPPETS, INTEGRA, BREAKFAST CREEK, PRE CATELAN, SIR DAPPER, PROUD KNIGHT, CLAY HERO, COUNTY and JUSTICE PREVAILS in their pedigrees.
Starspangledbanner traces to OLYMPIC AIM, who is also the ancestress of sires HARADASUN and ELVSTROEM. Their daughters create strong reinforcement to this valuable Colonial line.
Ruby Tuesday, Secretariat and Drumtop – all on the third remove of The Wow Signal’s dam – each carry the Nasrullah / Princequillo nick. This can be either be further replicated or reversed by the presence of influences such as DIGNITAS, RIVERMAN, CHIEFTAIN, GODSWALK, FIRST CONSUL, IMPERIALIST, DEDICATED RULLAH, WITHOUT FEAR, KEY TO THE KINGDOM, MILL REEF, TARGOWICE, BOLD LAD (USA) KRIS S. and TASH (dam of MUKADDAMAH) in mares. SIR GAYLORD closely copies this cross, having Nasrullah’s three quarter brother Royal Charger over Princequillo.
With a triplication of Northern Dancer plus other compatible individuals, The Wow Signal should work well with MR. PROSPECTOR line broodmare sires such as HUSSONET, RHYTHM, WOODMAN, KINGMAMBO, STRAIGHT STRIKE, MACHIAVELLIAN (sire of STREET CRY), ELUSIVE QUALITY, UMATILLA, GEIGER COUNTER, BELLOTTO, EL MOXIE, JADE ROBBERY, JADE HUNTER, DISTORTED HUMOR, END SWEEP, INFLATE, VETTORI, THUNDER GULCH, FAPPIANO, SECRET SAVINGS, ELUSIVE QUALITY, ZAFONIC and his son XAAR.
Starspangledbanner’s damsire Made Of Gold is from the LADY KELLS family. US stallions CAPOTE and EXCELLER are also from this line. Mares by Capote’s son AGINCOURT and Exceller’s son CHAMPION PILOT for instance, will create desirable line breeding to Lady Kells.
The presence of three lines to Northern Dancer plus fellow ALMAHMOUD family member Danehill in The Wow Signal, beckons other members of this line such as HALO, ORPEN, WAY OF LIGHT, MACHIAVELLIAN, ESPERERO, EXIT TO NOWHERE, CANNONADE, CATRAIL, EL MOXIE, YOUTHFUL LEGS, L’EMIGRANT and ARCTIC TERN.
Starspangledbanner has produced Group 3 winner OF THE BRAVE out of a RORY’S JESTER mare.
ZABEEL mares should also suit The Wow Signal very well. His damsire High Chaparral has nicked with mares by Zabeel, producing Group 1 winners Dundeel and Fenway on this cross. Zabeel carries Nureyev, a three quarter brother to Sadler’s Wells and from the family of Topsider in The Wow Signal. Mares by Zabeel’s sons and grandsons are also appealing, such as OCTAGONAL, LONHRO and SAVABEEL etc.
Zabeel’s sire SIR TRISTRAM offers his own assets to The Wow Signal. He sex balances Round Table for him and offers Sir Gaylord, a half brother to Secretariat. Mares by his other sons / grandsons such as DR. GRACE, GROSVENOR, KAAPSTAD, MILITARY PLUME and KAAPTIVE EDITION are examples.
INVINCIBLE SPIRIT and The Wow Signal’s dam share many similarities. They both carry Northern Dancer, Round Table, Nasrullah and sons of influential mares SOMETHINGROYAL and LALUN. Invincible Spirit’s daughters and those of his son I AM INVINCIBLE appeal.
Surely it would also be an advantage to sex balance Sharpen Up Or Bletchingly also with any Starspangledbanner stallion one would think . which reverts back to Rockefella
Hi Gary, thanks for the feedback. Sharpen Up is already sex balanced in the pedigree of The Wow Signal. I agree that Bletchingly would good to sex balance Biscay in Starspangledbanner, but due to the summary nature of this report I covered that in my third paragraph, “The Wow Signal’s pedigree carries daughters of several important influences, which will benefit by the presence of sons of these influences in mares.”
I used Secretariat, Lunchtime and Vain as examples in that and the next para, but others such as Biscay, TV Lark and Round Table are others which could be sex balanced in matings with The Wow Signal.
