SWEET ORANGE (USA)

A young stallion by one of the world’s most successful current sires War Front, Sweet Orange was a juvenile stakes winner and went on to take out the HK1 Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Classic Mile as a four year old.

Like many of War Front’s best runners, Sweet Orange is bred on reinforcement of Mr. Prospector. It is triplicated in his pedigree 5m x 5m x 4f, which includes a duplication of Fappiano. Mr. Prospector – and indeed War Front himself – has worked well with fellow FRIZETTE family member, SEATTLE SLEW.  He can be sourced via mares carrying CAPOTE, A P INDY (sire of BERNARDINI, CONGRATS), AIR DE FRANCE, KHOZAAM and NINE CARAT. He is also prominent in FRAAR and BALMONT.

The Nijinsky II / Round Table cross present in War Front’s dam can be repeated by using mares carrying TIGHTS or CAERLEON via sire sons such as ALQUOZ, BLETCHLEY PARK, GENEROUS and TENBY.

Round Table (present twice in Sweet Orange) is a member of the ALOPE (2) family.  JOHANNESBURG, TALE OF THE CAT, KNOWN FACT, DOUTELLE, FOXLAW, ALCIDE, AUREOLE, ATAN, ABOVE SUSPICION, MUKDDAAM, SONG OF TARA, PARTHIA and KNIGHT COMMANDER and POMPEII COURT (damsire of STARCRAFT) are other members to seek. War Front’s Gr 1 winner DATA LINK is out of a KNOWN FACT mare.

As his presence is via two daughters, sons of Round Table, such as DIGNITAS, KNIGHTLY MANNER, BRAHMS, BALDRIC II, BEAU BRUMMEL and POKER will create a desirable sex balanced duplication with this stallion.

Sweet Orange should work very well with BLETCHINGLY. He is highly compatible with fellow LADY SUSAN family member, Danzig (grandsire of Sweet Orange). Sources of Bletchingly include CANNY LAD (damsire of REDOUTE’S CHOICE), BEST WESTERN, BRAVE WARRIOR (and son SHOW A HEART) and STAR WATCH (sons HURRICANE SKY and PAUILLAC).

The duplication of Fappiano from the PLUCKY LIEGE family is strongly supported further back by multiples to Plucky Liege’s sons Bull Dog (16 lines) and Sir Gallahad III (4 lines) within ten generations. A core American family, many mares carrying imported US stallions will provide further lines to Bull Dog and Sir Gallahad III and their half brothers Admiral Drake and Bois Roussel. Other direct descendants of PLUCKY LIEGE to boost this line are HONOUR AND GLORY and OGYGIAN (damsire of JOHAN CRUYFF, JOHANNESBURG, SPARTACUS and STREET BOSS).

Sweet Orange’s third damsire Chieftain traces to THE SQUAW II and can be boosted by mares with fellow family members such as SHAM, ACK ACK and TOM ROLFE in their pedigrees.

Two of War Front’s 14 Gr 1 winners are out of SADLER’S WELLS mares and two of his Gr 2 winners are by sons of Sadler’s Wells, EL PRADO and GALILEO. He can be sourced via mares by HIGH CHAPARRAL, MONTJEU, BARATHEA, CARNEGIE, KING OF KINGS, RUNYON, SCENIC (and son BLEVIC) amongst others. Sadler’s Wells’ brother FAIRY KING is accessible via mares by ENCOSTA DE LAGO, FALBRAV, ADVENTUROUS, REVOQUE, SHINKO KING, SECOND EMPIRE, VICTORY NOTE and HELISSIO.

Sweet Orange carries two lines to Northern Dancer. His close relation HALO offers an outcross sire line. Mares carrying DON’T SAY HALO, OREGON, SOUTHERN HALO and his sons (including MORE THAN READY and DUBLEO), SUNDAY SILENCE and his sons (including, FUJI KISEKI, GENUINE, KEEP THE FAITH and BUBBLE GUM FELLOW) are suggestions.

War Front’s Gr 1 winner WAR COMMAND and Gr 2 winners SUMMER FRONT and LINES OF BATTLE carry His Majesty up close. While Sweet Orange is a grandson of Danzig, he maintains appeal for broodmares by DANEHILL grandsons and great grandsons, as Danehill is out of an HIS MAJESTY mare.

Rubiano and Caro head a contingent from the BLACK DUCHESS family.  Mares carrying RELAUNCH would be beneficial.  He is found in the pedigree of AD VALOREM and HONOUR AND GLORY amongst others. GOLD ACE and FINAL CARD are also descendants.

War Front has worked very well with ICECAPADE, producing two Gr 1 winners and a Gr 2 winner from mares carrying this influence. He can be sourced in mares with CLEVER TRICK or WILD AGAIN in their pedigrees.

Unbridled and a duplication of Dr Fager in Sweet Orange create line breeding to ASPIDISTRA. Further strengthening can be achieved by using mares carrying GREAT ABOVE (sire of HOLY BULL and damsire of HOUSEBUSTER) and TAYASU TSUYOSHI.
