Saxon Warrior is a son of “the Super Sire of Japan’, Deep Impact, in turn a son of the equally influential Sunday Silence.
Deep Impact has worked very well with STORM CAT, with seven of his Gr 1 winners being out of Storm Cat mares. This line can be found in Australasia via influences such as HENNESSY (son JOHANNESBURG and grandson TURFFONTEIN), CATRAIL, GIANT’S CAUSEWAY, TALE OF THE CAT, SHAMARDAL, VAN NISTELROOY and STATUE OF LIBERTY.
A great grandson of Halo, Saxon Warrior also carries fellow ALMAHMOUD family members, Danehill and five lines to Northern Dancer. The presence of Danehill in his pedigree is through a daughter, suggesting that mares carrying a son of DANEHILL will be one of the best options for exploiting this family. Inbreeding to Danehill has had best success when sex balanced. The other key strategy would be to introduce fellow family member MACHIAVELLIAN, most easily sourced in Australia via his son, STREET CRY.

Mares carrying ARCHWAY will be interesting with Saxon Warrior. Not only is he by GOODY TWO SHOES family member Thatching, but he is also a half brother to Saxon Warrior’s third dam, Rain Flower. Similarly, mares carrying Rain Flower’s half brother SHINKO KING – a sire by Sadler’s Wells’ brother Fairy King – also create line breeding to Saxon Warrior’s tail female line and add another line to GOODY TWO SHOES.
