RUSSIAN CAMELOT (Ire)

Russian Camelot is by Camelot (GB), a young sire who has produced seven G1 winners to-date.

Russian Camelot’s dam carries two of Camelot’s most successful crosses, that of Green Desert and Sadler’s Wells. Another G1 winner by Camelot carrying these two is Sir Dragonet, while G1 winner Athena is out of a Green Desert mare.

Russian Camelot is a grandson of the highly successful son of Sadler’s Wells, Montjeu. Like his sire Sadler’s Wells, Montjeu has done particularly well with SHIRLEY HEIGHTS and his son DARSHAAN, while Camelot’s G1 winning daughter Sunny Queen is also out of a Darshaan mare. The 3m x 3f duplication of Sadler’s Wells in Russian Camelot is supported by fellow GOODY TWO SHOES family members Nureyev, Val De Loir and Lorenzaccio further back in his pedigree. The strong representation of this influential line augurs well for Russian Camelot’s own prepotency.

Russian Camelot carries a daughter of DANEHILL on his fourth remove via Camelot, whose G1 winning daughters Even So and Wonderment both carry a duplication of Danehill. The availability of Danehill line mares in Australia is excellent and gives Russian Camelot unlimited opportunity. Mares by his son FLYING SPUR alsocreate a dynamic reverse Danehill / Mr. Prospector pattern to that present in Camelot’s dam.

Danehill and six lines to Northern Dancer in Russian Camelot should welcome the presence of fellow ALMAHMOUD family members MACHIAVELLIAN and HALO. Mares by DON’T SAY HALO, OREGON, SOUTHERN HALO and his sons including MORE THAN READY (and his sons SEBRING and DUBLEO), SUNDAY SILENCE (and his sons including FUJI KISEKI, GENUINE, KEEP THE FAITH and BUBBLE GUM FELLOW) qualify. MACHIAVELLIAN is most easily sourced in Australia via his son, STREET CRY (sire of STREET BOSS, STREET SENSE, PER INCANTO etc). VETTORI is another source of Machiavellian. The duplication of Danzig via Danehill and Green Desert in Russian Camelot begs for the presence of fellow LADY SUSAN family members, BLETCHINGLY and ROCKEFELLA. The three have worked extremely well in matings over several decades. While Bletchingly’s son CANNY LAD is the most prolific representative from this line, sources of Rockefella include STAR WAY, BALMERINO, ALVARO, FAMOUS STAR, LONG ROW, GYPSY KINGDOM, IDEAL PLANET, KEEN, SWITCH IN TIME and CREESE.

Three sires mentioned in the above paragraph – Keen, Switch in Time and Creese – carry Rockefella via SHARPEN UP. Four of Montjeu’s G1 winners including St. Nicholas Abbey and Hurricane Run, carry Sharpen Up through their dams. He can also be sourced via KRIS, DIESIS, SELKIRK, TREMPOLINO and SHARPO and he is damsire of DANEHILL DANCER. Camelot’s G2 son King of Leogrance carries Diesis. Daughters of DANEHILL DANCER, a son of Danehill out of a Sharpen Up mare, look particularly appealing for Russian Camelot.

Russian Camelot carries a daughter of Kingmambo. A speed-producing technique would be to introduce a son of KINGMAMBO to create a sex balanced duplication. Eligible damsires include DUBAI DESTINATION, KING CUGAT, KING’S BEST, LEMON DROP KID, KING KAMEHAMEHA and his son LORD KANALOA.

Russian Camelot’s damsire Cape Cross is closely related to IFFRAAJ, whose daughters create a desirable Rasmussen Factor pattern when combined in a pedigree with him.

Camelot carries a duplication of Zeddaan, one line being through son KALAMOUN. This family has done well with his sire Montjeu, with four of his Group 1 winners carrying this influence. Russian Camelot should appreciate mares with such sires as KENMARE and sons, KENDOR, ADRAAN, KALAGLOW, STANDAAN and NISHAPOUR in their pedigrees. Camelot’s G2 Adelaide Cup winner King of Leogrance has Kendor as his second damsire.
