Puissance De Lune’s sire Shamardal has an excellent record with several broodmare sire lines which also complement Puissance De Lune’s distaff pedigree.
The DANZIG line is particularly successful with Shamardal and should work beautifully with Puissance De Lune. Of Shamardal’s 13 Group One winners, 5 carry Danzig up close in their dams’ pedigrees. They include Faint Perfume, whose second damsire is DANEHILL; Dan Excel (HK) out of mare by Danzig’s son POLISH PRECEDENT; Able Friend from mare by Danzig’s grandson VOLKSRAAD; and AMARON from a mare by BERTOLINI. Other suitable daughters from the Danzig line include those by ANABAA, BIANCONI, CHIEF’S CROWN, AD VALOREM, ASTRONOMER ROYAL, HARD SPUN, DESERT SUN, GOLDEN SNAKE, MISTER C, PERUGINO and SNAADEE.
Mares carrying the KENMARE line have also worked with Shamardal. Group One winning son Lope De Vega has Kenmare’s son KENDOR as his second damsire. Other damsires from this line (or to Kenmare’s sire Kalamoun) include HIGHEST HONOR, VERGLAS, KELTRICE, KENVAIN, JEUNE and KALAGLOW.
SADLER’S WELLS, FAIRY KING and their three quarter brother NUREYEV also have had great success with Shamardal. Group One winners Crackerjack King and Baltic Baroness are joined by two other Shamardal Group winners out of mares by Sadler’s Wells or his sons. Nureyev appears up close in the pedigrees of the dams of five Group winners via sons / grandsons such as ASHKALANI and PEINTRE CELEBRE. Other damsire representatives of Sadler’s Wells, Fairy King and Nureyev include ENCOSTA DE LAGO, BARATHEA, HELISSIO, HIGH CHAPARRAL, CARNEGIE, KING OF KINGS, SCENIC, GALILEO, SOVIET LAD, SPINNING WORLD and STRAVINSKY.
Dual Group One winner Faint Perfume is from a mare by ZABEEL, who is out of a Nureyev mare.
Shamardal also has a very good success rate with the Storm Cat and Mr. Prospector lines, however Puissance De Lune’s dam has already contributed or duplicated these two strains.
Puissance De Lune is inbred to Rahy, from the MISS SWAPSCO family. Line breeding to this successful line can be created with mares by SINGSPIEL, SAINT BALLADO, DEVIL’S BAG, RIVOTIOUS, JAN MURRAY and MANSHOOD.
Rahy’s sire Blushing Groom (present twice) is a recognised nick with NIJINSKY II. To activate this nick, use mares carrying such influences as ROYAL ACADEMY, BLETCHLEY PARK, BELK ESPRIT, CAERLEON, KALA DANCER, SERHEED, WESTERN SYMPHONY and YEATS.
Shamardal’s Group Three winner Shamoline Warrior is out of a mare by DEHERE.
Puissance De Lune’s third damsire is Northfields, a half brother to HABITAT. To create desirable line breeding, Habitat can be sourced through mares carrying ARCH SCULPTOR, BASSENTHWAITE, EXPORT PRICE, LORD SEYMOUR, KEEPERS and HUNTINGDALE. Damsires GRAND LODGE and METAL STORM also carry Habitat up close.
Shamardal’s sire Giant’s Causeway has Roberto as his second damsire. Using mares carrying sons of ROBERTO will create a desirable sex balanced duplication. In addition, Puissance De Lune’s dam is a half sister to the dam of Doubles Partner, a Group Two winning grandson of Roberto, indicating that the distaff family also works well with Roberto. Mares by his sons or grandsons include those by RED RANSOM, SRI PEKAN, AT TALAQ, KRIS S., LEAR FAN, MEMENTO, SILVER HAWK, TOUCHING WOOD and BROCCO.
Fellow Shamardal Group One winner Captain Sonador is from a mare by Bletchingly’s son KENNY’S BEST PAL. Other sources of Bletchingly include mares by CANNY LAD, SIR LAURENCE, BEST WESTERN, COSSACK WARRIOR, BRAVE WARRIOR, BUREAUCRACY and OPERA PRINCE.
Another interesting mating for Puissance De Lune involves daughters or granddaughters of STREET CRY. A full brother to Shamardal’s dam, he is by Machiavellian. Shamardal’s Group 1 winning son Lope De Vega is bred on a Machiavellian duplication similar to that created in this hypothetical mating.
