Niagara is a tail female line descendant of the very influential TORPENHOW. He is most closely related to Champion Sire Redoute’s Choice and class stallion Al Maher and also carries fellow TORPENHOW family member Nijinsky II through daughter Dancing Show. Niagara would benefit from the presence of other family members in mares, such as TRY MY BEST (sire of WAAJIB and LAST TYCOON – sire of O’REILLY, TOWKAY, MARJU and BIGSTONE), FAR NORTH, THE MINSTREL (sire of PALACE MUSIC, BAKHAROFF and MASTERCLASS), AL MAHER, REDOUTE’S CHOICE, HURRICANE SKY, XAAR, UMATILLA, FREE AMERICA, RULER, NEW REGENT, EL GRAN SENOR (sire of RODRIGO DE TRIANO), SPINNING WORLD and GIELGUD.
Sex balancing Nijinsky II is also a valid way to reinforce the TORPENHOW family. Suggestions are mares carrying sons of Nijinsky II such as ROYAL ACADEMY, WESTERN SYMPHONY, CAERLEON and BEL ESPRIT.
DANEHILL appears via daughter Twyla in Niagara’s pedigree – therefore he is on the fourth remove when Niagara appears as sire. Mares by sons and grandsons of DANEHILL create a sex balanced duplication 4 x 3 or 4 x 4.
Encosta De Lago’s sire Fairy King is a brother to SADLER’S WELLS and TATE GALLERY and a three quarter brother to NUREYEV, all of whose female descendants are great candidates for matings with Niagara. Damsires such as STRAVINSKY, SPINNING WORLD (and son THORN PARK), GALILEO, HIGH CHAPARRAL, MONTJEU, SOVIET LAD (and son STARCRAFT), PEINTRE CELEBRE and CARNEGIE are suitable, amongst many others.
STORM CAT provides an ‘outcross’ for Niagara and works very well with Mr. Prospector, to whom Niagara is inbred. BLACK MINNALOUSHE also contributes a son of Nijinsky II.
A member of the GOODY TWO SHOES family, Niagara’s grandsire Fairy King will also appreciate reinforcement from broodmare carrying sires from this line, such as THATCH and his son THATCHING, LORENZACCIO, YEATS, INFLATE, TOPSIDER, FESTIVAL HALL, WINDSOR SLIPPER, FOX MYTH, REFORM and OPEN DAY.
Fairy King’s damsire Bold Reason is a half brother to NEVER BEND, sire of MILL REEF and RIVERMAN. This is also the family of GRAND CHAUDIERE, who appears in the pedigree of SNIPPETS (sire of PINS).
Encosta De Lago is from the FANFRELUCHE family. Other members include HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR, FLYING SPUR, KHELEYF, D’ACCORD and L’ENJOLEUR. The latter appears in the pedigree of sires ST. REIMS and KITTEN’S JOY.
Encosta De Lago’s Group 1 winners RACING TO WIN, MNEMOSYNE and ALOHA all carry STAR KINGDOM through their dams. In addition, Niagara’s close distaff relation Redoute’s Choice has sired Group 1 winners out of mares carrying Star Kingdom line representatives. Redoute’s Choice is out of a mare by CANNY LAD.

The SIR TRISTRAM line is a highly successful cross for Niagara’s close maternal relation, Redoute’s Choice. He has an Average Earnings Index of 3.86 with mares carrying Sir Tristram. Niagara’s sire Encosta De Lago has produced Group 1 winners PRINCESS COUP, APERCU and DELAGO BROM out of Sir Tristram line mares. Daughters of descendants such as GROSVENOR, LONHRO, KAAPSTAD, SOVEREIGN RED, MARAUDING, EL QAHIRA, DON EDUARDO, HULA TOWN, MILITARY PLUME, SAVABEEL, OCTAGONAL, ZABEEL and DR. GRACE are desirable.
