Eleven time Group One winning Lonhro and his triple Group One winning brother Niello are out of a mare by STRAIGHT STRIKE, a son of MR. PROSPECTOR. Lonhro’s Group 3 placed son Shadrach is out of a BELLOTTO mare, another son of Mr. Prospector. Other sources are mares by HUSSONET, UMATILLA, EL MOXIE, STREET CRY, WOODMAN, THUNDER GULCH, EL MOXIE, VETTORI, RHYTHM and GEIGER COUNTER.
Lonhro’s second damsire First Consul is a tail female relation of NATIVE DANCER, who appears twice in his pedigree. The grandsire of Mr. Prospector, he is also on the tail male line of CLEAR CHOICE, PRINCE ECHO and ZOFFANY. SECRET SAVINGS is also from this family. SNIPPETS carries relation Misty Day.
NORTHERN DANCER line mares account for 16 black type performers by Lonhro’s sire Octagonal. Of his four stakes performers to-date, Lonhro himself has produced three from the DANZIG sireline, including dual stakes winner Black Minx (out of a DANEHILL mare). GRAND LODGE and FLYING SPUR account for the other two.
Octagonal has worked very well with mares by SADLER’S WELLS (dam sire of Gr.1 winner Laverock and SP Spraygun). He is the sire of SCENIC, SONG OF TARA, BARATHEA, CARNEGIE, KING OF KINGS, KING’S THEATRE, RUNYON and GALILEO.
STAR KINGDOM line mares look very promising with Lonhro. Smart Sydney winner Skytrain is out of a LUSKIN STAR mare, while city winner Huamulan has ZEPHYR BAY as his second damsire. Winner Veewap is out of a BLETCHINGLY mare. Star Kingdom line dam sires to produce stakes performers by his sire Octagonal include CANNY LAD, MIGHTY KINGDOM, STAR WATCH, SEMIPALATINSK, MARSCAY and BLETCHINGLY.
The GREY SOVEREIGN line looks promising at this early stage. Black Minx’s second damsire is KENMARE, while promising son Oil Baron has GREY MOP as his second damsire. Fly Higher (Group 3 fourth) is also out of a mare carrying Grey Sovereign, via her second damsire KHAIRPOUR. Other sources of Grey Sovereign include BEAU SOVEREIGN, KELTRICE, KENVAIN, VERGLAS, JEUNE, KALAGLOW, JON GEORGE, KENDOR and METAL STORM.
Grey Sovereign is also strong in the LADY JOSEPHINE family, of which Octagonal is a member. Mares by COMMANDS and DANEWIN are from the same taproot line (Eight Carat) and also offer Danzig.
