Lonhro – Cool Passion Filly Sells for $1.05m

The product of a highly rated Pedigree Dynamics mating, the Lonhro filly out of multiple stakes winning mare Cool Passion (also a Pedigree Dynamics planned mating), delighted her owners Team McDonnell Racing and Breeding when achieving $1.05 million at the Gold Coast Magic Millions.

Selling late on the Saturday evening, the filly had many admirers around the complex over the previous days’ inspections.

Cool Passion is by Redoute’s Choice’s son Not A Single Doubt and Lonhro has a good track record with mares from the Danehill line, having produced five of his twelve Group 1 winners on this cross (and another two by fellow Northern Dancer line sire Night Shift).

G1 Randwick Guineas winner Kementari is similarly bred, being by Lonhro out of a Redoute’s Choice mare – grandsire of Cool Passion.

Lonhro offers more Bold Ruler and War Admiral to boost the Bold Ruler / Prince John / Eight Thirty / War Admiral combo carried by Cool Passion.

Lonhro’s second damsire First Consul is a grandson of Misty Morn, a three-quarter sister to Not A Single Doubt’s third damsire, Misty Day. This is also the family of Native Dancer, who appears ten times in this mating within 10 generations.

Never Bend, damsire of Straight Strike in Lonhro, is a SUNSHOT family member, reinforcing Grand Chaudiere in Cool Passion.

Lonhro has the added attraction of being free of Danzig, an influence to which Cool Passion in inbred 4m x3m.

Purchased by Sheamus Mills Bloodstock for a racing / breeding partnership, the filly has the ideal pedigree to take her from racetrack to breeding barn.
