King Cugat is inbred to Raise a Native, making him a perfect cross for the Northern Dancer line with which Raise a Native works so well.
Of the innumerable representatives of Northern Dancer-line broodmare sires currently available in Australasia, there are a few which stand out for King Cugat. SADLER’S WELLS, FAIRY KING and their brother TATE GALLERY are three-quarter brothers to Kingmambo’s damsire, Nureyev.
Kingmambo has already produced a Grade One winner from a Sadler’s Wells mare – El Condor Pasa. Multiple Group One winner Galileo, who is from King Cugat’s immediate family is a son of Sadler’s Wells. Sadler’s Wells-line mares are available in Australasia via SCENIC, BARATHEA and CARNEGIE. HELISSIO is a son of his brother, Fairy King.
DANEHILL mares also look outstanding. King Cugat’s dam and Danehill’s dam are both bred on a combination of Ribot, Buckpasser and Native Dancer. Of these three, Ribot and Native Dancer are both desirably ‘sex balanced’ – they have both a male and a female representative in the mating. Danehill’s damsire His Majesty traces to BOUDOIR, who is also the ancestress of Majestic Prince and Graustark in King Cugat.
Kingmambo has also produced a Grade One winner, Lemon Drop Kid, out of a Seattle Slew mare. AIR DE FRANCE, AGINCOURT, HELISSIO and FRAAR carry Seattle Slew.
Buckpasser is a LA TROIENNE family member. DON’T’ SAY HALO, HULA CHIEF, AIR DE FRANCE, WOODMAN, Private Account, Noble Bijou, Polish Navy, The Axe II, Forest GLOW and SEATTLE SLEW are some of the individuals carrying this line.
Nureyev is a member of the GOODY TWO SHOES (5) family. Apart from those already mentioned above, other members of the family which would enhance this line for King Cugat are Thatch and his son Thatching, Val de Loir, Ridan, Lorenzaccio, Yeats, Windsor Slipper, Fox Myth, Reform and Open Day.
ARCHWAY, RUSTIC AMBER, SHALFORD, TIROL, WIGANTHORPE and PUISSANCE are by Thatching.
King Cugat traces to SECLUSION, who is also the taproot mar for REGO, giving CROWN JESTER and RORY’S JESTER mares a boost. STAR APPEAL (sire of STAR WAY) and LAKE CONISTON are other family members. Lake Coniston has additional appeal, being from the Northern Dancer line and carrying a relation of Nureyev, Ridan.
