Kaphero is by Danzero, a Champion Two Year Old and a prolific and successful stallion.
Of Danzero’s 21 Group winners to-date, seven carry SIR TRISTRAM or his sire SIR IVOR. These include Group One winners FAIRWAY, DANNI MARTINE and JYMCAREW. To take advantage of this cross for Kaphero, mares carrying sires such as DALMACIA, GROSVENOR, IMPERIAL PRINCE, KAAPSTAD, KAAPTIVE EDITION, MILITARY PLUME, OCTAGONAL, RESET, LONHRO, VICTORY PRINCE and ZABEEL are desirable.
Kaphero’s sire Danzero and damsire Centaine have each produced a stakes winner when combined with BELLOTTO (namely EXTRA ZERO and LITTORIO). He is a son of Mr. Prospector, who is also accessible via broodmare sires such as HUSSONET, CELTIC SWING, RHYTHM, WOODMAN, LION CAVERN, STRAIGHT STRIKE, UMATILLA, FAPPIANO, GEIGER COUNTER, EL MOXIE, JADE ROBBERY, distorted humor, END SWEEP, AFLEET, INFLATE, THUNDER GULCH and SECRET SAVINGS.
RORY’S JESTER mares also look appealing for Kaphero. His sire Danzero has produced two stakes winners – PERMAISCUOUS and HINTING – out of mares by Rory’s Jester. Kaphero’s winning daughter Jennyfromtheblock is out of a Rory’s Jester mare.
DANGLISSA, a Group One winning daughter of Danzero, carries SOSTENUTO, a half brother to Idomeneo (second damsire of Danzero). Broodmare sires carrying Sostenuto include REAL JESTER, PROUD KNIGHT and his sire descendants CLAY HERO and REGAL SHOT.
Kaphero carries Vain through a daughter. Broodmares carrying sons of VAIN such as SIR DAPPER and PROUD KNIGHT create a dynamic sex balanced duplication of this exceptional racehorse. Proud Knight is particularly desirable as he also carries Sostenuto.
Similarly, sons of TODMAN such as BLAZING SADDLES, BEACHES and IMPOSING in mares’ pedigrees sex balance the daughter (Rain Shadow) in Kaphero’s pedigree.
The speedy Grey Sovereign appears on Kaphero’s fifth remove, as grandsire of Bandmaster II. Duplicating Grey Sovereign has been a successful pattern for speed inheritance. Broodmares from the KENMARE sire line (such as KENVAIN and KELTRICE) are a good source, as are mares by KALA DANCER and DASH FOR CASH, who carries Grey Sovereign through his dam.
COVETOUS is particularly desirable in a broodmare, as he not only contributes Grey Sovereign, but sex balances Kaoru Star (damsire of Danzero) for Kaphero. Covetous is by Kaoru Star’s son LUSKIN STAR.
Danzero’s triple Group One winner NICONERO is out of a mare by SCENIC.
Danzero, who carries two lines to BLUE PETER, has worked very well with mares offering more of this line. His Golden Slipper winning son DANCE HERO carries Blue Peter’s brother Full Sail. While Kaphero’s dam also carries a line to Blue Peter, more of this influence would be desirable. He is most easily accessed in Australia via MATRICE. Broodmares carrying PAGO PAGO are a source of Matrice.
Mares by KELTRICE not only offer Grey Sovereign, as outlined earlier, but Matrice as well.
