Henny Hughes’s sire, Hennessy’s affinity with Raise A Native is obvious, with two Group 1 winners bred on this cross and another eleven stakes winners to-date. Henny Hughes’s damsire carries a daughter of Raise A Native to sex balance any sons of Mr. Prospector. This welcomes Australasian broodmare sires such as HUSSONET, WOODMAN, THUNDER GULCH, STRAIGHT STRIKE, ZOFFANY, GEIGER COUNTER, BELLOTTO, EL MOXIE, UNBRIDLED’S SONG, PRINCE ECHO and BITE THE BULLET. UMATILLA and QUEST FOR FAME carry Raise a Native and have the added appeal of carrying Nijinsky II (see below).
NIJINSKY II is working well with Hennessy. A recognised ‘nick’ with Henny Hughes’s grandsire Storm Cat, this cross has already produced Hennessy’s Group One winning son, Grand Armee, who carries Nijinsky II. Other stakes winners by Hennessy; India, Silver Tree, Orchard Park, Porte Bonheur, also carry Nijinsky II prominently. Nijinsky’s three-quarter brother The Minstrel is known to work well with this line. Hennessy . Daughters of MASTERCLASS, PETERHOF, PALACE MUSIC and his son NATURALISM are therefore appealing.
Henny Hughes’s damsire Meadowlake is from the family of HAIL TO REASON. This brings is broodmares from the lines of his sons, HALO and ROBERTO. Broodmare sires such as RED RANSOM, SRI PEKAN, AT TALAQ and BROCCO supply Roberto, while MORE THAN READY, DON’T SAY HALO, FUJI KISEKI, SUNDAY SILENCE, RON BON and IRGUN mares supply Halo.
Hennessy’s good son Half Hennessy is out of a BLAZING SADDLES mare.
BLUE PETER, who is from the family of Utrillo II (grandsire of Hennessy’s dam), can be sourced in Australia via DANZERO, CITIDANCER, PLANET KINGDOM, MATRICE, his son PAGO PAGO, SABAEAN, SANCTION, SHALFORD, IMPERIAL PRINCE, VICTORY PRINCE and TIERCE.
SIR TRISTRAM is working well with Henny Hughes’s sire Hennessy. Champion racehorse Grand Armee is out of a MARAUDING mare; Group 3 winner Acetate is out of a KAAPSTAD mare; Listed winner Hennessy Waltz is out of a SOVEREIGN RED mare and Listed winner Vintner’s second dam is by SIR TRISTRAM.
DANZIG and his son DANEHILL are working with Hennessy. Danzig line sires MISTER C and DANZERO have produced stakes winners by him.
The presence of Prince John, Bold Ruler and Eight Thirty (twice) in Henny Hughes will appreciate mares carrying WAR ADMIRAL.
