GIGA KICK a Great Advertisement for Line Breeding

As the best performed progeny of Redoute’s Choice’s son Scissor Kick by the length of the Randwick straight, Everest winner GIGA KICK’s pedigree deserved a thorough investigation. What made him such a standout?

His pedigree doesn’t disappoint. While he is out of a stakes placed English mare (Royal Applause) the dam of two stakes placegetters in Rekindled Power and Shuffle Up (both by Scissor Kick’s sire Redoute’s Choice) and granddam of G1 winner Alabama Express, the mating itself is a standout.

Most obvious is the sex balanced inbreeding to Rainbow Quest – sire of Scissor Kick’s damsire Quest For Fame and of Rekindled Applause’s dam Rekindled Affair. While Rainbow Quest was a Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner (on protest) and judged a Classic influence, his being inbred to here through a son and a daughter appears to have ‘quickened’ his contribution.

It is the line breeding however, that looks particularly impressive in Giga Kick’s mating. He himself is a tail female line descendant of TORPENHOW, who is also the ancestress of several of the key ancestors in Giga Kick’s pedigree.

Scissor Kick – who was last exported to France in 2019 and now stands in Tunisia – carries TORPENHOW family members Redoute’s Choice and three lines to Nijinsky II. Giga Kick’s dam Rekindled Applause offers Try My Best, The Minstrel (a three-quarter brother to Nijinsky II) and of course her own dam line, to this prepotent family.

Blushing Groom, sire of Rainbow Quest (twice), has a recognised affinity with Nijinsky II, triplicated in Scissor Kick.

On paper at least, Giga Kick looks like he can be effective over longer distances too. How exciting for connections!
