Reviewing the compatibility patterns of Foxwedge’s supremely successful sire Fastnet Rock can assist in identifying lines which may nick well with Foxwedge.
Mr. Prospector line mares are highly desirable for Foxwedge, with Fastnet Rock already having produced eight stakes winners with Mr. Prospector prominent in their dams. In addition, Bold Native (in Foxwedge’s damsire Forest Wildcat) is a grandson of MYRTLEWOOD, the same taproot as Mr. Prospector. Broodmare sires such as HUSSONET, RHYTHM, WOODMAN, LION CAVERN, STRAIGHT STRIKE, UMATILLA, FAPPIANO, GEIGER COUNTER, BELLOTTO, EL MOXIE, JADE ROBBERY, distorted humor, END SWEEP, AFLEET, INFLATE, VETTORI, THUNDER GULCH and SECRET SAVINGS are good candidates.
HUSSONET (by Mr. Prospector) is particularly attractive, as he also traces to ESCUTCHEON, the same tail female family as Foxwedge.
The BLUSHING GROOM line is also worth exploiting for Foxwedge. He not only works very well with Nijinsky II in Fastnet Rock, but this cross has already produced SW’s LOVEMELIKEAROCK and BORN TO ROCK for Foxwedge’s sire. Blushing Groom can be sourced in mares by sires such as QUEST FOR FAME, NOVERRE, FANTASTIC LIGHT, NASSIPOUR, ARAZI, MT. LIVERMORE, URGENT REQUEST, REDDING, VISCOUNT and SPECTRUM.
Fastnet Rock’s stakes winners ROCK CLASSIC, ROTHESAY, EMPRESS ROCK and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED all have STAR KINGDOM through their dams. MARSCAY, LUSKIN STAR, BLETCHINGLY, BUREAUCRACYand canny lad are particularly appealing.
Royal Academy, who appears through daughter Piccadilly Circus in Foxwedge, can be sourced through daughters of his son, BEL ESPRIT to create a desirable sex balanced duplication.
NUREYEV has been working very well with Fastnet Rock – especially through ZABEEL (ATLANTIC JEWEL and PLANET ROCK). MOSHEEN is out of a daughter of STRAVINSKY and ROCK CLASSIC is out of a daughter of PEINTRE CELEBRE.
Nureyev’s ¾ brothers FAIRY KING and SADLER’S WELLS are also prominent in a couple of Fastnet Rock’s stakes winners to-date. Fairy King is most easily sourced via ENCOSTA DE LAGO and HELISSIO. The latter is particularly appealing, as his damsire Slewpy is closely related to Foxwedge’s second damsire Water Bank.
Sadler’s Wells’ sons such as SCENIC, GALILEO, HIGH CHAPARRAL, BARATHEA, CARNEGIE, KING OF KINGS, SINGSPIEL and KING’S THEATRE are options for Foxwedge.
SNIPPETS mares have produced Fastnet Rock’s smart sons WANTED and HINCHINBROOK.
HALO line broodmares are great candidates for mating with Foxwedge. A close relation to Northern Dancer (who appears three times in Foxwedge) and Danehill, he can be sourced via DON’T SAY HALO, FUJI KISEKI, MORE THAN READY, irgunand SUNDAY SILENCE.
Similarly, MACHIAVELLIAN line mares also contribute to the female family of Northern Dancer. He can be sourced via EL MOXIE, STREET CRY and VETTORI broodmares.
DEPUTY MINISTER (most easily sourced through mares by DEHERE) has produced multiple stakes winners when combined with Fastnet Rock.
Mares carrying RED RANSOM create sex balanced duplications of both Damascus and Nearctic when put to Foxwedge. His son CHARGE FORWARD also contributes Bletchingly up close, while his son DOMESDAY also sex balances Storm Bird for Foxwedge.
