An outcross for a high percentage of Australian based mares, Equiano offers several different opportunities.
Equiano carries a duplication of LADY SUSAN family member, Rockefella. This is also the family of DANZIG and BLETCHINGLY. There are several champion racehorses carrying a combination of these three, such as KINGSTON TOWN, SUNLINE, DANEHILL DANCER, REDOUTE’S CHOICE and SHOGUN LODGE. Mares from the Danzig and Bletchingly sire lines are highly desirable for Equiano.
Sons / grandsons of Danzig include DANEHILL, BIANCONI, ANABAA, DESERT SUN, BELONG TO ME, PERUGINO, GOLDEN SNAKE, HARD SPUN and SNAADEE.
Examples of damsires carrying Bletchingly are CANNY LAD, CHARGE FORWARD, BUREAUCRACY and COSSACK WARRIOR.
Equiano’s sire Acclamation has worked well with several lines which we can access in Australia. His Group One winning daughter DARK ANGEL is out of a mare by MACHIAVELLIAN, while another of his stakes winners is from a mare by Machiavellian’s son, VETTORI. Machiavellian is also the sire of NO EXCUSE NEEDED and STREET CRY, so their daughters should work well with Equiano.
Machiavellian is by Mr. Prospector. Equiano’s damsire Ela-Mana-Mou has also produced stakes winners with Mr. Prospector. Broodmare sires such as HUSSONET, CELTIC SWING, RHYTHM, WOODMAN, LION CAVERN, STRAIGHT STRIKE, UMATILLA, FAPPIANO, GEIGER COUNTER, BELLOTTO, EL MOXIE, JADE ROBBERY, distorted humor, END SWEEP, AFLEET, INFLATE, THUNDER GULCH and SECRET SAVINGS are good candidates.
The BLUSHING GROOM line is also very appealing for Equiano. Ela-Mana-Mou as damsire has produced three stakes winners from sires carrying Blushing Groom. He can be sourced in mares by sires such as QUEST FOR FAME, NOVERRE, FANTASTIC LIGHT, NASSIPOUR, ARAZI, MT. LIVERMORE, URGENT REQUEST, REDDING, VISCOUNT and SPECTRUM.
Equiano’s second damsire is Kris, a brother to KEEN and DIESIS, whose presence in mares’ pedigrees should be highly sought. Kris’ sire Sharpen Up can also be duplicated. Mares by DANEHILL DANCER, CHOISIR, CHURCHILL DOWNS and VALIXIR all carry this influence.
Equiano’s sire line traces to Try My Best, who is best known in Australia as sire of LAST TYCOON. His daughters as well as the daughters of WRITTEN TYCOON, BIGSTONE, CASINO PRINCE, IGLESIA, MONDE BLEU and FUBU contribute this influence for Equiano.
Acclamation is out of a mare by Ahonoora. A desirable sex balanced duplication can be created by using mares carrying a son of AHONOORA. Examples are INDIAN RIDGE, BALL PARK and DON’T FORGET ME.
The presence of the great Secretariat as Equiano’s third damsire opens up opportunities for mares carrying his half brother SIR GAYLORD. The SIR TRISTRAM line is a great source of Sir Gaylord. Mares by (or out of mares by) RESET, MILITARY PLUME, ZABEEL, OCTAGONAL, LONHRO, DR. GRACE and GROSVENOR are examples. Mares by KINGSTON RULE, a son of Secretariat, sex balances this influence.
Equiano traces to ALABLUE, also granddam of Boldnesian, who in turn is grandsire of SEATTLE SLEW. Mares from this sire line will create interesting line breeding to ALABLUE. Seattle Slew appears in mares by AIR DE FRANCE, A.P. INDY (sire of BERNARDINI), CAPOTE, DUBAI DESTINATION and AGINCOURT amongst others.
