Duke of Marmalade hails from the family of several sires that now feature in broodmare pedigrees. Using mares by BITE THE BULLET, A.P. INDY, SUMMER SQUALL, WOLFHOUND, FOXHOUND, HONOR GRADES, SPECTACULAR SPY and (in future) STATUE OF LIBERTY, reinforces his tail female line.
BLETCHINGLY line mares have a great record with Danehill and sons.. CANNY LAD, COSSACK WARRIOR, KENNY’S BEST PAL, STAR WATCH, RIGOLETTO and TRUE VERSION are sons of Bletchingly.
Duke of Marmalade’s dam sire Kingmambo responds very well to mares carrying SADLER’S WELLS. Mares by SCENIC, GALILEO, CARNEGIE, BARATHEA, KING’S THEATRE, SINGSPIEL, RUNYON and (in future) REFUSE TO BEND are appealing.
Both Danehill and Kingmambo cross very well with NIJINSKY II. Mares by sires such as BEL ESPRIT, KALA DANCER, YEATS, CAERLEON, ROYAL ACADEMY, WESTERN SYMPHONY, WHISKEY ROAD, SERHEED and BLETCHLEY PARK create this pattern.
BLUSHING GROOM is in the pedigree of several of Danehill’s Group One winners. Blushing Groom can be sourced in mares by QUEST FOR FAME, FANTASTIC LIGHT, NASSIPOUR, ARAZI, URGENT REQUEST, REDDING, VISCOUNT, SPECTRUM and NOVERRE.
Duke of Marmalade carries a daughter of Sir Gaylord on his tail female line. Introducing mares carrying a son of Sir Gaylord (such as SIR IVOR) will create a desirable sex balanced duplication. Examples are mares carrying IMPERIAL PRINCE, IVORY HUNTER or SIR TRISTRAM via their descendants including DR. GRACE, MYOCARD, GROSVENOR, KAAPSTAD, MILITARY PLUME, OCTAGONAL, VICTORY PRINCE, ZABEEL and LONHRO.
Duke of Marmalade carries a duplication of Buckpasser, a LA TROIENNE family member. Reinforcement of this line has been extremely successful, so introducing mares from this family is appealing. Daughters of MORE THAN READY, WOODMAN, NOBLE BIJOU, RHYTHM or mares carrying PRIVATE ACCOUNT, CORNISH PRINCE, FRANCIS S., THE AXE II and MR. BUSHER further back are desirable.
The STORM BIRD line should also work very well with Duke of Marmalade. Not only is there a Group One winner by Storm Bird in his family (Summer Squall) and a Group One placegetter (Statue of Liberty), but this line also works well with Danehill (ie Snitzel). Descendants of Storm Bird include BLUEBIRD, DOLPHIN STREET, HENNESSY, LAKE CONISTON, MUKADDAMAH, TALE OF THE CAT, JOHANNESBURG, HIGH YIELD and CATRAIL.
