Demerit is by current Leading Australian Sire, Lonhro. Apart from producing this graded stakes winner ex a Scenic mare, Lonhro has produced many stakes winners whose dams’ bloodlines give an indication of Demerit’s potential preferences.
Four of Lonhro’s 25 stakes winners are from mares by NIGHT SHIFT, including Group 1 winner, BEADED. By Northern Dancer out of Ciboulette, he is a full brother to superior female, FANFRELUCHE. This mare is prominent in the pedigrees of broodmare sires such as HIDEYOSHI, FLYING SPUR, ENCOSTA DE LAGO and in future, daughters of MEDAILLE D’OR and HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR.
A further four of Lonhro’s stakes winners, including Group 1 winner BENFICA, are from DANEHILL mares. His sons COMMANDS and FLYING SPUR are also dam sires of Lonhro stakes winners. Daughters of Danehill, his sons and grandsons are very appealing for Demerit.
Danehill’s sire DANZIG is the sire of ANABAA, who has also met with success with Lonhro. Demerit’s dam’s half sister SP Shalang is by Danzig’s son, LANGFUHR. Other sons of Danzig should suit equally well.
The BISCAY line is also working well for Lonhro. Most prolific of these has been CANNY LAD (5 stakes winners). In addition, his sire BLETCHINGLY is present in the dams of both BEADED and PINWHEEL.
Spectacular Bid, damsire of Demerit’s dam Shame, is inbred to To Market. MARSCAY carries another line to To Market, which when combined with Demerit, will create strong line breeding. Lonhro progeny carrying Marscay include Group 1 winner DENMAN.
Denman’s dam is by VAIN, who appears in many Colonial pedigrees. Dam sires with Vain close up in their pedigrees include TRIBU, KELTRICE, BEL ESPRIT, MARWINA, SIR DAPPER, TESTA ROSSA, COUNTY, CLAY HERO and VAIN KARIOI.
Demerit’s dam is by Scenic, a son of SADLERS’ WELLS. Line breeding to this (the ROUGH SHOD) family has been very successful. THATCH (sire of ARCHWAY, RUSTIC AMBER, SHALFORD, TIROL) is also a member, as are NUREYEV (sire of STAVINSKY, SPINNING WORLD, ZENTSOV STREET, ASHKALANI, POLAR FALCON, SOVIET LAD etc) , TATE GALLERY, FAIRY KING (sire of ENCOSTA DE LAGO), GEIGER COUNTER, YEATS and INFLATE.
Scenic shares his granddam with QUEST FOR FAME. Not only will using mares by QUEST FOR FAME or his sons DRACULA and VISCOUNT create line breeding to this dominant family, but this line has already worked with Lonhro. His stakes winners OBSEQUIOUS and SERENISSIMA carry Quest For Fame through their dams.
The MR. PROSPECTOR line is also working, with Lonhro’s recent stakes winner Euryale out of a FUSAICHI PEGASUS mare. Fusaichi Pegasus is particularly appealing as he also offers a daughter of Danzig.
Other Mr. Prospector line sires to target include HUSSONET, BELLOTTO, WOODMAN, E DUBAI, EL MOXIE, GEIGER COUNTER, RHYTHM, PROTOS, SECRET SAVINGS, STRAIGHT STRIKE, STREET CRY, THUNDER GULCH and UMATILLA.
