CAMELOT

Written May 2014

Camelot is a son of the highly successful son of Sadler’s Wells, Montjeu. Out of a mare bred on a Mr. Prospector / Danehill cross, there are plenty of proven breeding options for Camelot.

Montjeu, like his sire Sadler’s Wells, has done particularly well with SHIRLEY HEIGHTS and his son DARSHAAN. Mares carrying this line appeal for Camelot. Of Montjeu’s 27 Group 1 winners, six carry Shirley Heights – three via Darshaan – through their dams.

Another line with which Montjeu has had an affinity is the SHARPEN UP line. Four of his Group 1 winners including Champions ST. NICHOLAS ABBEY and HURRICANE RUN carry Sharpen Up through their dams. Sharpen Up is often sourced via KRIS, DIESIS, SELKIRK, TREMPOLINO and SHARPO. Local mares may also carry sire representatives such as KEEN, SWITCH IN TIME, FAMOUS STAR, VALIXIR, COLLEGE CHAPEL, HALLING, DAGGERS DRAWN, CREESE and COMMON GROUNDS.
Sadler’s Wells, Val De Loir and Nureyev in Camelot’s pedigree are all members of the GOODY TWO SHOES family. This line responds very well to further reinforcement. Mares carrying THATCH and his son THATCHING, GEIGER COUNTER, YEATS, INFLATE, PERUGINO, TOPSIDER, FESTIVAL HALL, WINDSOR SLIPPER, FOX MYTH, REFORM and OPEN DAY are appealing. Mares by ENCOSTA DE LAGO (by FAIRY KING) or his sons also form strong reinforcement.

Camelot carries a duplication of Zeddaan, one line being through son KALAMOUN. This family has done well with Montjeu, with four of his Group 1 winners carrying this influence. Camelot should appreciate mares with such sires as KENMARE, ADRAAN, KALAGLOW, STANDAAN and NISHAPOUR in their pedigrees.

RAINBOW QUEST features in two of Montjeu’s Group 1 winners – AUTHORIZED and TAVISTOCK (dam by QUEST FOR FAME). A further two of Montjeu’s Group 1 winners are out of GRAND LODGE mares.

Camelot’s second dam Fickle is a daughter of Danehill, therefore utilising mares by DANEHILL line sires creates a desirable sex balanced duplication of this influence. Mares by FLYING SPUR also create a dynamic reverse Danehill / Mr. Prospector pattern to that present in Camelot’s dam.

The BOUDOIR family is represented in Camelot by Graustark and His Majesty. Linebreeding to this prepotent family can be achieved by using mares carrying YOUR HOST, TV COMMERCIAL, CROWNED PRINCE, SECRETO, RAISE A CROWN, WHISKEY ROAD and OUR POETIC PRINCE.

New Zealand bred Group winners by Montjeu, NOM DU JEU and HARRIS TWEED, were out of mares by PRIZED. His sire Kris. S is also the sire of BROCCO.

Danehill and three lines to Northern Dancer in Camelot should welcome the presence of fellow ALMAHMOUD family member HALO. Mares by DON’T SAY HALO, OREGON, SOUTHERN HALO and his sons (including MORE THAN READY and DUBLEO), SUNDAY SILENCE and his sons (including FUJI KISEKI, GENUINE, KEEP THE FAITH and BUBBLE GUM FELLOW) qualify. Montjeu’s Group 2 winner GALLANT GURU is out of a DON’T SAY HALO mare.
