Being a grandson of Danzig, Big Brown is earmarked for mares from the MR. PROSPECTOR line. ASix of Big Brown’s seven stakes winners to-date carry Mr. Prospector through their dams, with a further two of his ten stakes place getters also carrying this influence. Broodmare sires such as HUSSONET, RHYTHM, WOODMAN, KINGMAMBO, STRAIGHT STRIKE, MACHIAVELLIAN, ELUSIVE QUALITY, UMATILLA, GEIGER COUNTER, BELLOTTO, EL MOXIE, JADE ROBBERY, JADE HUNTER, DISTORTED HUMOR, END SWEEP, INFLATE, VETTORI, THUNDER GULCH, FAPPIANO, SECRET SAVINGS, ELUSIVE QUALITY, ZAFONIC and his son XAAR are good candidates.
Interestingly, two of Big Brown’s stakes performers carry CARO through the dam. Damsires in Australia carrying this influence include UNBRIDLED’S SONG, DANEHILL DANCER (son CHOISIR) CHERAW and COZZENE (damsire of PIVOTAL).
Big Brown’s sire traces in direct tail female line to GOODY TWO SHOES. He also carries fellow family members Nureyev and Lt. Stevens. This family usually responds well with further reinforcement. FAIRY KING, his brothers SADLER’S WELLS and TATE GALLERY are three quarter brothers to NUREYEV, all of whose female descendants are great candidates for matings with Big Brown. Damsires such as ENCOSTA DE LAGO, STRAVINSKY, SPINNING WORLD (and son THORN PARK), GALILEO, HIGH CHAPARRAL, MONTJEU, SOVIET LAD (and son STARCRAFT), SCENIC, PEINTRE CELEBRE and CARNEGIE are suitable, amongst many others.
Big Brown’s second damsire Lear Fan traces to BABA KENNY. This is also the family of BEAU MAX and BETTER SELF, both of which appear in the pedigree of MARSCAY. Sources of this influence include MARWINA, MAIZCAY, BLAZING SWORD, JETBALL and WEASEL CLAUSE and Marscay also appears as damsire of CATBIRD, ELVSTROEM, HARADASUN and IGLESIA (sire of WRITTEN TYCOON).
Lear Fan’s relation Better Self is also duplicated in the pedigree of HUSSON, whose daughters also look appealing with Big Brown.
A duplication of Round Table in Big Brown invites reinforcement from other ALOPE family members. TALE OF THE CAT, GONE WEST, KNOWN FACT and JOHANNESBURG are from this line. POMPEII COURT (damsire of STARCRAFT) is also desirable in mares for Big Brown as he carries ALOPE family members Tell and Round Table.
Another Star Kingdom line stallion which can create highly desirable line breeding with Big Brown is BLETCHINGLY. He carries War Relic on his third remove, who is from the same family as Sword Dancer – this individual appears twice in Big Brown as sire of Damascus (duplicated 3 x4 in Big Brown). Bletchingly has the added advantage of also working extremely well with his fellow LADY SUSAN family member, Danzig (grandsire of Big Brown). Sources of Bletchingly include CANNY LAD, BEST WESTERN, COSSACK WARRIOR (son BRAVE WARRIOR and grandson SHOW A HEART) and STAR WATCH (sons HURRICANE SKY and PAUILLAC).
An individual carrying a duplication of War Relic is IN REALITY, who appears in the pedigrees of three of Big Brown’s 10 stakes performers to-date. In Reality is present in the pedigrees of WARNING, RELAUNCH, KNOWN FACT, VALID APPEAL, CHARGE FORWARD, SNITZEL and SOUTHERN IMAGE mares amongst others.
