Danzig is from the LADY SUSAN family and would benefit by the presence of other family members BLETCHINGLY, ROCKEFELLA, KAMPALA and SHOWOFF II. Sons and grandsons of Bletchingly include CANNY LAD, SIR LAURENCE, BEST WESTERN, COSSACK WARRIOR, BRAVE WARRIOR, BUREAUCRACY, OPERA PRINCE and KENNY’S BEST PAL.
Danzig works very well with STAR KINGDOM in general, with many stakes winners bred on this cross. Apart from the Bletchingly line dam sires mentioned above, mares by LUSKIN STAR, MARSCAY, COVETOUS, HURRICANE SKY, KAORU STAR, MADE OF GOLD and SEMIPALATINSK.
Mares carrying COURT MARTIAL should also work well with Ad Valorem. He is bred on the same cross as Petition in Danzig. Court Martial is most commonly found as the sire of WILKES, in turn sire of VAIN.
Mr. Prospector line mares are particularly appealing, with this combination having produced Group winners such as Fusaichi Pegasus, Flying Spur, Brahms, Dayjur, Rumplestiltskin, Regal Rose, Laisserfaire, Scintillation and Miss Danehill. Australasian broodmare sires such as HUSSONET, RHYTHM, WOODMAN, STRAIGHT STRIKE, UMATILLA, GEIGER COUNTER, BELLOTTO, EL MOXIE, JADE ROBBERY, distorted humor, END SWEEP, INFLATE, VETTORI, THUNDER GULCH and SECRET SAVINGS are good candidates.
ALYDAR (by Mr. Prospector’s sire Raise A Native) line mares should also suit Ad Valorem. Group 1 winners such as Lure, Astronomer Royal, Hard Spun, Yamanin Paradise and Strolling Along are all by Danzig out of Alydar line mares.
HALO line broodmares are great candidates for mating with Ad Valorem. A close relation to Northern Dancer, Ad Valorem’s grandsire, he can be sourced via DON’T SAY HALO, FUJI KISEKI, MORE THAN READY, irgunand SUNDAY SILENCE. VRC Australian Guineas winner Al Maher is by Danzig’s son Danehill out of a Don’t Say Halo mare.
Agnes World is by Danzig out of a SEATTLE SLEW mare. AIR DE FRANCE, NINE CARAT, A.P.INDY and KHOZAAM mares will suit.
Ad Valorem’s third dam Classic Perfection is a daughter of Never Bend. Mares from the Never Bend sire line will create a sex balanced pattern with Ad Valorem. MILL REEF, NAMNAN and RIVERMAN are compatible lines, while SADLER’S WELLS, FAIRY KING and their brother TATE GALLERY carry Never Bend’s half brother Bold Reason. Sons of Sadler’s Wells include CARNEGIE, GALILEO, SCENIC, BARATHEA and KING OF KINGS. Fairy King is the sire of ENCOSTA DE LAGO.
ROBERTO line mares have also done well with Danzig. Gr.1 Breeder’s Cup Mile winner War Chant (by KRIS S.), Gr. 1 winners Yashmak and Furiously (ROBERTO) and several other stakes winners are bred on this cross. Mares by RED RANSOM, AT TALAQ, BROCCO, SRI PEKAN and MEMENTO mares appeal.
